PASSPORTS AND VISAS

To enter New Zealand, Canadian and U.S. citizens require a valid passport (must be valid three months beyond intended departure date). This is good for stays of up to three months. Also necessary are a fully paid return ticket or a ticket to another country and sufficient funds to maintain yourself during your stay (about $1000 per month, or $400 per month if you have already paid for accomodations).

Departure Tax
Upon departing from Wellington or Auckland Airports a departure tax of NZ$20 is payable. From Christchurch Airport departure tax is NZ$16.


CUSTOMS REGULATIONS

Duty-Free Items: As well as personal items, the following may be brought into the country by persons over 17 without having to pay tax or duties: 200 cigarettes or 250 grams of tobacco or 50 cigars or a mixture of these not weighing more than 250 grams; 4 liters of wine or equivalent in beer (six 750 ml bottles) and one 1,125 ml bottle of spirits or liqueur; personal purchases and gifts with a total value not exceeding US$383.00.
